Once you have taken your notes, it's time to apply the concepts to a poem so that you can practice before working on your official project. You will be working in small groups to complete the following steps:
- Read the Sylvia Plath poem, annotating it for unknown words and literary elements.
- Using your Lens Exploration handout, analyze the poem using five different lenses. (I have provided three you must use; the other two are up to you and your group to select.)
- Discuss in your small groups--and be prepared to contribute in whole-class discussion!
- Complete a reflection in your journal answering the following questions:
- How did beginning without knowing the title of the poem change your experience of it?
- What are some similarities you find in your group's answers? How about some differences? Why do you think that is?
- What was the easiest part of this process? How about the hardest? How will this prepare you for your final project?
- What do you need from me in order to be successful in your final project?
